Ingredients
For two oven dishes of 20 cm x 15 cm or one of 20 cm x 30 cm.
- 100 g brown sugar (e.g. muscovado, any type of sticky sugar will work, yet this one gives a nice caramel flavor)
- 80 g flour
- 80 g oats
- 114 g of butter (cold)
- Seasonal fruit of choice
- Pear and (blue)berries
- Strawberry and rhubarb
- Apple and raisins
- …
- Spices of choice: cinnamon, cardamom, …
Instructions
When using frozen fruit, let it thaw in a sieve over a bowl and discard the released juice. This will prevent the fruit from turning into jam during baking.
Preheat the oven to 180°C.
Wash/peel the fruit if necessary and cut into pieces of about 1.5 cm.
Add any spices of your liking and transfer the fruit to the oven dish(es).
Mix all dry ingredients for the crumble topping in a bowl.
Roughly grate the butter or cut into small cubes. Combine the butter with the dry ingredients using your hands unti you get a crumbly dough.
Divide the crumble topping over the fruit. Bake the crumble in the oven for 20 – 25 min. Serve warm.
TIP
Leftover crumble topping stores very well in the freezer.
