Ingredients
For two oven dishes of 8″ x 6″ or one of 8″ x 12″.
- 1/2 cup brown sugar (e.g. muscovado, any type of sticky sugar will work, yet brown sugar gives a nice caramel flavor)
- 2/3 cup flour
- 1 cup oats
- 1 stick of butter (cold)
- Seasonal fruit of choice
- Pear and (blue)berries
- Strawberry and rhubarb
- Apple and raisins
- …
- Spices of choice: cinnamon, cardamom, …
Instructions
When using frozen fruit, let it thaw in a sieve over a bowl and discard the released juice. This will prevent the fruit from turning into jam during baking.
Preheat the oven to 360F.
Wash/peel the fruit if necessary and cut into pieces of about 1/2 inch.
Add any spices of your liking and transfer the fruit to the oven dish(es).
Mix all dry ingredients for the crumble topping in a bowl.
Roughly grate the butter or cut into small cubes. Combine the butter with the dry ingredients using your hands unti you get a crumbly dough.
Divide the crumble topping over the fruit. Bake the crumble in the oven for 20 – 25 min. Serve warm.
TIP
Leftover crumble topping stores very well in the freezer.
